Pinning down one idea

A SAMPLE OF MY ART FOR THE FRONT COVER OF MY EBOOK

After giving all the ideas some thought, one kept on coming back into my mind. As I had written several walking guides, I wanted to try and create an entirely new type of book, en ebook which would combine walking and art.

Last year I walked from Florence to Siena after taking around six months to plan the journey using old maps, book, Google, Open Street Map, Italian walking guides and a few other resources. The walk was amazing and took eight days., although it could have taken just four. It was one of the most exciting walks I have undertaken, beating even Nepal. For me walking is to live. It is an emotional experience and I felt I wanted to share this experience through producing an interactive, animated ebook containing text, video, photographs, sound and illustrations.

I want to engage the reader emotionally through the author's walking experiences. I have called the project, 'Journeys through Time and Space with a Walking Artist.

This art work was produced in February last year after walking to the most northerly point of Rogaland, called Tungenes. It is one of my favourite places to walk. There is a lighthouse there which is totally exposed to the elements and on a wild winter's day, the waves lash up the rocks to the lighthouse gate. At night it is especially wild. I produced this piece of art by initially drawing the lighthouse then scanning the drawing. I then worked on the piece digitally using three different programmes using layers and filters.

This area, including the lighthouse is rich in history.
