Will we watch them disappear?, Emma Arthur (2013)

This is my first digital collage where I tried to be more artistic than photographic. The collage is a response to the disappearance of the Arctic Fox in a specific part of Norway. The inspiration for the collage is one of Norway's most famous artworks, Vinternatt i Rondane III by Harald Oskar Sohlberg (1918-24). There is a fox in the foreground of the painting. Today there are no Arctic Foxes left here.

There are elements in my artwork that I feel work and elements that don't. The line followed by the foxes back follows the mountains in Solberg's painting and I like the way this has worked out using a filter to create the furry appearance of the fox's coat. Blending the white colour with the blues worked well as I did not want the outline of the fox to stand out but to rather blend into the mountain as if it was part of it. The fox may have gone but it was living on in the mountain.
