Hills and Pathways
Hills and Pathways , Emma Arthur (2014)
At this time of year the paths where I live are always muddy due to all the rain. This artwork is an abstract representation of these paths and hills. It was created digitally using an EOS tablet with a digital pen to draw the lines. Colours were then added using Photoshop. It was then worked on in another program to create the mezzotint affect. This is a technique I feel is affective for the theme of the artwork. I would like to have created the affect using a metal plate and other tools required to create this technique but it is just not possible at home.
I like the way the lines flow, indicating both paths and hills simultaneously. They are also organic representing nature. The colours are earthy and perhaps to some drab but I wanted to keep the colours realistic as the representation of hills and paths is abstract. The texture is rough and uneven, again representing what a muddy path would be like. There are also circles and lines on the brown ´paths´representing stones and uneveness.
This is a digital piece which I have not printed out and therefore am unsure of how it will look like. I think it is best to print it out on rough paper which has a lot of texture.
